What is LAVA Volleyball?
LAVA Volleyball is a competitive club volleyball program dedicated to developing athletes both on and off the court. Our goal is to provide quality coaching, skill development, competitive tournament opportunities, and a positive team environment.
What ages do you serve?
LAVA Volleyball offers teams for athletes ranging from 10U through 18U.
Where are practices held?
Most practices are held in the Logan/Nelsonville/Trimble area, with additional practice locations being added as our club continues to grow. Team-specific practice locations will be communicated before the season begins.
What volleyball region does LAVA compete in?
LAVA Volleyball is a member of the Ohio Valley Region (OVR) and competes in OVR-sanctioned events as well as other approved tournaments.
Tryouts & Team Selection
When are tryouts held?
Tryouts are typically held during the summer for 14-18U and in the fall for 10-13U according to the OVR and USA Volleyball club season calendar. Specific dates are posted on our website and social media pages.
How do I register for tryouts?
Athletes can register online through our website and complete all required OVR/USAV paperwork before attending tryouts.
What should my athlete bring to tryouts?
Athletes should bring:

What happens if my athlete cannot attend tryouts?
Contact us as soon as possible. We may be able to arrange an alternative evaluation or private assessment depending on roster availability.
What is a pre-offer?
A pre-offer is an opportunity for a club to offer a roster spot to an athlete before the official tryout date, following OVR and USA Volleyball recruiting guidelines.
Teams & Practices
How many times per week do teams practice?
Practice schedules vary by age level, but most teams practice 2-3 times per week.
How long are practices?
Practices typically last between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Can athletes play other sports?
Absolutely. We encourage multi-sport athletes and understand the importance of balancing school, family, and athletics.
What if my athlete misses practice?
We understand that occasional conflicts occur. We ask families to communicate absences with coaches as early as possible.
Tournaments
How many tournaments will teams attend?
Tournament schedules vary by team and age group. Most teams participate in multiple OVR events and additional tournaments throughout the season.
Do all teams attend OVR Championships?
Yes. LAVA's expectation is that all teams will attend OVR Championships unless a team collectively opts out.
Are overnight tournaments required?
Some teams, particularly older age groups, may participate in overnight or travel tournaments. Team schedules will be shared as early as possible.
Who is responsible for travel expenses?
Families are responsible for their athlete's transportation, lodging, meals, and other travel-related expenses.

Are payment plans available?
Yes. LAVA offers payment plans to help families manage club dues throughout the season.
What happens if payments are missed?
Families are expected to remain current on all scheduled payments. Failure to make payments may result in suspension from practices and tournaments until the account is brought current.
Are dues refundable?
Club dues are generally non-refundable once an athlete accepts a roster position because expenses are committed on behalf of the athlete.

How will I receive team information?
Most communication is sent through email, team communication apps, social media, and our website.
Who should I contact with questions?
Questions should first be directed to your team's coach. Club-wide questions can be directed to LAVA Volleyball administration.
What is the 24-hour rule?
Parents and athletes should wait at least 24 hours before discussing concerns related to playing time, coaching decisions, or game situations. This allows everyone time to reflect and have productive conversations.
College Recruiting
Does LAVA help athletes interested in playing in college?
Yes. We assist athletes with the recruiting process by providing guidance, exposure opportunities, and communication support when appropriate.
When should athletes begin thinking about recruiting?
Athletes interested in collegiate volleyball should begin exploring opportunities during their freshman and sophomore years of high school.
